  1. NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Queen's Harbour Master Portsmouth that a Charity Cross Solent Swim in aid of Portsmouth Lifeguards and The Children’s Air Ambulance will take place on Saturday 6 September with a spare day on Saturday 20 September in the event of poor weather. Safety Craft and support will be provided by Portsmouth and Southsea Voluntary Lifeguards.
  2. Ten swimmers will be taking part in the event. Each swimmer will be supported by an individual kayak. Safety boats will be led by the 7.5 metre motor launch “Arkwright” acting as a mother craft, together with two RIBS, “Portsea Rescue One” and “Portsea Rescue 2” together with a Rescue Jetski. Safety craft will operate on VHF Ch50 and a listening watch on VHF Ch11 and Ch12 will be maintained throughout the swim.
  3. The proposed route of the swim is from Ryde Sands to Gillkicker Point. The swim is expected to start at approximately 14:00 and complete by around 17:00 (times may be slightly amended if the spare day is used).
  4. The safety boat will display the International Code ‘ALPHA’ Flag whilst escorting the swimmers.
  5. All mariners are requested to keep a good lookout and pass well clear of the swimmer and the support craft during their crossing of the Solent.
